Costa Rica Waterfall Engagment
Costa Rica is full of so many waterfalls throughout the country- whether it’s the blue volcanic water in the mountains of Arenal or near the coastal beaches, there’s likely a waterfall or two within driving or hiking distance of wherever you are. I’m so lucky that Sam and Nick were so down to do this hike with me, they’re such troopers. The time we visited was in the dry season, which is nice because it isn’t rainy or muddy, but it’s much more hot, which makes hiking a bit miserable at times. This particular hike has a really steep decline at the beginning, too, which made it very difficult on the way back, but it was totally worth it. The waterfall was massive- it’s hard to capture its essence in pictures, it felt like stumbling upon a piece of Jurassic park or something. We were also the only people on the trail, which was amazing because we had the whole place to ourselves, and also because no one else was around to witness my sweaty red face. We hiked directly to the waterfall on the way down the trail and soaked up the cool mist wafting off the falls. After cooling off a bit by the falls, we made out way back up the trail and stopped at some of the swimming holes on the way back. All the water in Costa Rican rivers is surprisingly cool compared to the hot, humid climate, to we took a dip in the river and marveled at some of the creatures that we saw along the way- a poison dart frog, some teeny tiny frogs the size of house flies, some lizards here and there, and even a few fish. It was definitely an adventure, and one I hope to repeat with all the never-ending natural sites within the country of Costa Rica.
