How to Plan a Jackson Hole Elopement (Updated for 2025)

Jackson Hole is an iconic little town in the west that’s perfect for your elopement. Jackson Hole is beautiful in every season, has a quaint town, excellent food, and the access to the Tetons in unmatched. The natural beauty that’s so easily accessible in this area is unbelievable. Seeing the Tetons for the first time will take your breath away. Jackson Hole itself is a mix between high end luxury and the remnants of the old west that still lingers. If you’re into the cowboy-bougie vibe, then this place is a perfect fit. I visited for the first time in 2018 and have visited every summer since, whether that meant shooting elopements, passing through Wyoming, or backpacking through the Teton Crest trail. I’m very familiar with the area at this point and want to share everything I know with my couples to make their Jackson Hole elopement that much easier.

Why Elope in Jackson Hole?

Access to the Tetons

The Tetons are some of the most beautiful mountains in the country with their pointy, jagged peaks coming out from seemingly nowhere. While there’s several other towns that are around the Tetons, Jackson is the most developed and has access to all the best trails and those iconic views of the Tetons. You will need a permit to marry on National Park land, but the extra hoops are with it for the epic nature in this area.

Beautiful Accommodations

Jackson Hole is a popular hub for the rich and famous and as a result, it has loads of luxury resorts, lodges, hotels, and Airbnbs/VRBOS that are uber bougie and have beautiful views of nature. Unlike places like LA or New York, Jackson has a cowboy/western feel to it. I’ve listed some of my favorites accommodations that are perfect for a luxury elopement below.

Wildlife

I’ve seen moose in the Tetons on multiple occasions, bison, elk, antelope, and a black bear. You can also find eagles, rams, coyotes- there’s animals everywhere since there’s not much civilization in the area, it’s hard to visit without seeing something when you’re there. If you’re lucky (or unlucky) you might spot a grizzly or wolves- be sure to bring bear spray with you if you ever go on a hike!

Best Time Of Year To Elope In Jackson Hole

Summer: Late May-August

Summer is one of the best time to visit Jackson Hole, however it is the busiest. Summer in Jackson hole is sunny and warm with fields dotted with wildflowers and cold lakes perfect for jumping in. Summer is my personal favorite time in Jackson Hole, and the best time to go if you want to spend time up in the high alpine wilderness. If you want to avoid the crowds, plan your elopement ceremony for early in the morning at sunrise, or later in the evening after everyone’s gone to dinner- these are the best times for lighting anyways- the early wake up call is totally worth it when you can see the Tetons light up pink and orange with the sun.

Fall: September-early October

Fall is a beautiful time to have a Jackson Hole elopement, and a great time to visit Jackson Hole if you want to avoid crowds. Early fall still has a lot of accessibility on hiking trails and roads before the snow comes in. The leaves start turning gold and orange in September and are usually gone by the second week of October. If you want to plan your elopement around when the leaves are changing, the last week of September and the first week of October are reliably the peak of the leaves turning. by late October, the colors will be long gone.

Winter: November-March

Jackson Hole is mostly known for it’s skiing, so you can imagine it’s a beautiful place to elope in the winter. The views from the resort are epic, and the powder is light and fresh. Winter in Jackson Hole is extremely cold, so if you choose to elope in Jackson Hole in the winter, be sure to prepare accordingly with fleece leggings under your dress, winter coats, pocket warmers, proper footwear, and anything else you might need to stay warm.

Spring: April-early May

I wouldn’t really recommend eloping in Jackson Hole in spring. While there are less people, there’s very little to do in the area. Ski resorts have closed down, many businesses limit their hours, and there’s dirty snow and mud everywhere, as the snow has started melting but hasn’t completely melted yet. The town will be empty, but you’ll likely run out of things to do pretty quickly.

Elopement Activities in Jackson Hole

Hiking

There are some amazing trails around Jackson Hole. A lot of the trails are very steep, because the mountains are so tall and pointy, but the effort is worth the payoff in the end.

Skiing

The dry champagne snow in the winter makes for perfect skiing and snowboarding in the winter months. If skiing and snowboarding isn’t your thing, you can always go snowshoeing or snowmobiling instead!

Shop for Cowboy Getup

Jackson Hole might not still be home to many real cowboys, but you can still find plenty of flannels, boots, and hats to fit the part. Stop by Encounter Hat Co if you want to make a custom Cowboy hat to commemorate your day.

Hot Springs

Jackson Hole is close to Yellowstone, which is a volcanic hotspot, which means there’s lots of hot springs around. Stop at Astoria Hot Springs if you want to soak in a developed spring, or find some secret natural hot springs around the area where you can soak completely alone!
